Three Fantastic And Easy Fried Turkey Recipes For A Tasty Twist This Thanksgiving

Millions of Americans will be cooking turkey in the next few weeks as my favourite holiday of the year rolls around... Thanksgiving. While many will probably stick to the tried & tested roasted-in-the-oven recipes, many brave people will be trying new and innovative methods to cook their holiday turkey, like grilling, smoking or even deep frying turkey.

Deep fried turkey may sound a bit strange if you have not tried it yet, but if you're a fan of crispy turkey skin, then you'll love deep fried turkey. Or if you like dark meat, fried turkey legs and wings will become your new favourite Thanksgiving dish. No matter whether you are a fan of white or dark meat, here're some turkey fryer recipes which will make sure to wow you and your family this Thanksgiving:

One tablespoon salt

1 tablespoon ground black pepper

Louisiana Style Deep Fried Turkey Recipe

I like spicy foods, thus this Creole seasoned fried turkey recipe is among my favorites.

Ingredients:

Peanut oil for frying (see directions for your turkey fryer for specific amount, but approximate amount will be three gallons)

1-10 to 12 lb turkey, full

¼ cup Creole seasoning

1 white onion, whole

Remove the neck and giblets from the turkey; rinse and dry. Rub the turkey in and out with the Creole seasoning. Place the turkey and the full white onion in the fry basket. See the Standard Turkey Frying Directions below for instructions on ways to cook the turkey.

Deep Fried Rosemary Turkey

That's a more sophisticated fried turkey recipe, magnificent if you're trying to impress the in-laws!

Ingredients:

1 (10-12 lb) full turkey

1/2 cup minced garlic

Salt & pepper to taste

3 gallons peanut oil (or as needed)

3 sprigs fresh rosemary

12 cloves garlic, peeled

1/2 cup chopped fresh ginger root

Instructions:

Rub the turkey with the minced garlic, sale and pepper, on the in and outside. Fill the hollow space of the bird with rosemary, garlic cloves and the ginger. Marinate for half-an-hour in the fridge.

Remove the herbs and garlic from the turkey and discard. Follow the normal turkey frying directions below. Enjoy!

Normal Turkey Frying Directions:

* Heat oil to 350 degrees F. Ensure that the fryer is placed outdoors in a secure place (flat dirt or grassy surface away from the house, wooden decks or other flammable surfaces).

* Trim any additional skin away from the thawed turkey. The neck hole must be minimum 1 inch in diameter. Pat the turkey dry, then rub generously with salt and pepper on both the inside and outside. Place the turkey neck-side first into fry basket.

* Lower the basket into the hot oil, gently and gradually. Ensure that the hot oil completely covers the turkey.

* Cook for 3 1/2 - 4 mins per lb. For a 10 lb turkey, it should take roughly 35-40 mins to cook the bird.

* Remove the turkey from the oil and insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of thigh to measure. Temperature will be 180 degrees F.

* Let the turkey to rest for 15 minutes before carving.
