Furthermore, some of his co-workers made an appointment with staff in Human Resources Department and stated that Barry often came to work with a strong smell of alcohol on his clothes or on his breath.

Barry's manager heard about all of this from Barry's co-workers and from Human Resources. So one Tuesday afternoon he invited Barry into his office. He stated to Barry that he had recently noticed an explicit change in his behavior, work performance, attendance, and in his sick time.

This gave Barry some psychological relief for the first time in more than a few weeks and he frankly experienced some hope that he would get back on track with his life.
